A Grateful Acknowledgment

Without Professor Eric Robinson's seminal work (with David Powell, P.M.S. Dawson and Margaret Grainger) normally known as 'The Clarendon Editions' (see below), this weblog could not exist.

I am grateful to Professor Robinson for his scholarship of course, but his wit and encouragement as well as his comments, advice and wisdom were much appreciated.  I was with him up to two days before he died in March 2019 and greatly miss him.

These wonderful editions seek to preserve Clare's manuscripts as far as possible without editorial interference -- with all Clare's  spellings and occasional punctuation -- Eric has made it possible to read Clare's work as it was written. With Clare's difficult history of editorial meddling with his poetry, this is refreshing indeed.
